Trying to catch up! Manchester in a nutshell.

Hi everyone! Javier and I are currently on a ferry from Isle of Skye to mainland Scotland. The weather is cool with a slight mist. A definite change from when we first arrived to Scotland. Last time we spoke, I believe we were still chatting about London, and our shenanigans there. Since then, we have been to Manchester and all over Scotland, so let’s begin with Manchester…

Do you remember how we said we would no longer be taking buses? Well, much like the pains of labor (so I’ve been told) we forgot how uncomfortable we were and thought we’d try again! It was to be a short-ish bus ride- around 5 hours. Now, for some reason I though the ride was only two hours…don’t ask me why. Javier had been managing the bookings, and I think I saw one stop was two hours away, and well…I just didn’t continue reading. We arrived at the bus station around 1030 with full bellies and ready for a new adventure. Javier suggested we buy a couple snacks and some water for the road…great idea! It wasn’t until we were traveling on the bus that I learned this trip was 5 hours. What?!? How is it that Javier, who is ruled by his stomach, overlooked this small detail that we would not be eating for at least 5 hours! My fault too, for not being more aware. So, knowing that we had to ration our portions, we decided to hold off for as long as we could. For the record, we had a bottle of water, granola bar, snickers that we had purchased several days before for an emergency such as this, and half a can of sour cream and onion Pringles.

The trip lasted around 7 hours…

We were hungry…

We ate and drank everything…

I don’t ever want to eat another sour cream and onion Pringle…at least for now. 🙂

Manchester was an interesting city. Different than any we had encountered since we left. Our whole reason for stopping was…you may have guessed it…Manchester City. We walked, we ate, we toured Etihad. I must say, having suffered, I mean toured through Wembley, I was not too keen on Etihad. I would like to announce that I was pleasantly surprised! It was a really great tour. Very interactive, informative, and our guide was really great (unlike that rather rude dude at Wembley.) Javier was in heaven, and I was having a pretty great time too!

Of course, Javier had to buy a jersey, and while we were waiting in line to have the name and patches pressed on, we met a really nice gentleman called Shadrach and his son Joel. We chatted with them for a bit, and learned they are from Addis Abba, Ethiopia. Well, what do you know!…I would like to visit Addis Abba some day! We gave him our blog information, so who knows! We may end up in Ethiopia, you never know!

Lastly, we stayed with a really nice family. Our host was Qi, he’s a PhD student, and we had some really neat conversations with him. Our trip to Manchester was very brief, but memorable nonetheless. We ate ribs while listening to old school gangster rap and started drinking strawberry/lime cider, to which we’re both kind of addicted…but in a good way, of course! I would like to also mention that I WAS on a ferry when I started this, but am now listening to the vibrant sounds of Oslo from my bedroom window. 🙂 G’night!
