Stick a fork in me, I’m Lon-don!

Ahhh London…where to begin…

Javier and I are currently sitting in a rather hip coffee shop/restaurant/bar in Manchester, UK. We arrived today by bus…big mistake as we hit major traffic and were delayed two hours. From now on, we take the train! At least, that’s what we say for now.

We just arrived after spending 5 clear, beautiful, warm days in London, and what a time we’ve had! I honestly didn’t think I’d like London as much as I did. What an amazing city! We sampled a bit of everything from the underground, to the eye, a touch of theatre, some amazing food, and a large dose of history (my personal favorite). There’s simply too much to write for one blog, so we’ll break it up a bit.

On our first glorious day…we slept.

On our second glorious day…we slept in. We did however drag ourselves out of bed and into the madness. Because we slept in, we were slightly limited. We set out and walked to Oxford St, down Regent and right into the aptly named, Piccadilly Circus. We toured through Trafalgar Square, and took pictures with the enormous, blue…ahem, rooster. We used the time to formulate our plan of attack for the rest of the week, and ended the day with Billy Elliott. Bravo.

On our subsequent days, we rode the famous London Eye (thank God for the gorgeous weather) walked through the London Tower, where they told graphic stories of the famous

who lost their heads. I think the highlight of this tour (for me, at least) was not the Beefeaters (although they were really great) but the parents who were constantly reminding their petrified little children that they were, contrary to what they were hearing, in fact safe, that they didn’t need to be afraid, and nothing like this was going to happen to them. 🙂 We viewed the family, errr, crown jewels (yes, they are the REAL jewels- at least, according to the guard I asked). Side note: the guard told me that while most of the jewels are retired, the ones still in use- such as the current Queen’s crown, are still used from time to time and when they are, a little place card is left in the empty space that says “In use.”

We visited the famed Wembley Stadium or as Javier refers to it- the Cathedral. Of course, we crossed the overly popular Abbey Road, took a river tour down the Thames, wandered aimlessly through some beautiful parks, ate some delicious food, explored Chinatown, and mastered the underground, yeah I said it, MASTERED!

A HUGE thank you to Tharshish for letting us stay, and even offering to let us extend that stay 🙂  Always great to see and spend time with friends who are scattered about!

We also tackled Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Oxford, but that will have to wait for another post. Stay tuned and stay healthy!
