So, I guess this will be the first post where my motive for writing is to share my thoughts for the day rather than just tell you about our activities. At some point, I would like to fill you in on the rest of our time in England, as well as Edinburgh, but for now, that will have to wait.
Today, Javier and I spent a good deal of the day on buses. These are the hop-on/ hop-off buses that tour through the city. That’s all we did today as far as tourism goes, and it took us about two hours. That being said, this has been one of the best days I’ve had since we left the good ol’ US of A, and I’d like to share why.
It’s been 3 weeks, to the day, since we left. Not too long…but long enough to itch for normalcy. Long enough for the hustle and bustle, the nonstop stimuli, and the excitement and exhaustion of new sites and cities to start taking its toll. If there were an end in site, maybe it would have a different effect. Who knows? Because the reality is, there’s no end in sight…and that’s okay by us 🙂
We are constantly trying to adjust to our lifestyle, which is proving to be quite a challenge. Trying to balance time, budget, as well as taking in as much as we can without overdoing it. I’m hoping it will get easier, but I understand it may take a while. I’d like to add that I just turned to Javier to ask if he feels the same way, and he is in agreement 😉
Enough already…on to today. After the bus tours, we wandered around old town Edinburgh for a bit, and made our way to a coffee house. I purchased a tea and scone (my staple) to-go, and Javier hopped across the street to Starbucks for an iced drink (he only went because this tiny coffee shop did not have iced drinks and it has been rather hot) and then grabbed a loaf the size of his head (and that’s saying something!) of some fancy bread. Edinburgh is full of parks-large parks.
We made our way to one of them, sat down in the shade and ate our treats. For the next couple hours, we lay on the grass- just talking, laughing, and admiring the hues of blue the sky created as the sun slowly moved west. We also kept a close eye on the seagulls to ensure 1. That they didn’t attack us for our bread. And 2. That they didn’t bomb us as they flew overhead.

We made our way back home where we changed, put clothes in the washer, and prepared for a run. There is another HUGE park just north of us, where we went on a solid run. I’m not sure how far it was, but it was a goodie. On our way home, we stopped by Dominos- I know, I know, why did we go to Dominos? And the only answer I have for you is, BECAUSE WE WANTED TO! We grabbed our pizzas (yes, plural-don’t judge) some veggies and drinks and made our way home. We’re staying in a really old mansion by the way with old furniture and REALLY high ceilings- it’s pretty cool. We sat in the living room, which looks like an old Victorian sitting room complete with grand piano, turned on the TV, and watched a movie. Pizza and a movie, folks…that was our night.
So, what made this day/night so special? It was a great reminder for us, that while we are so blessed to be able to take this trip, and we are looking forward to what the lies ahead, it is truly the people and the simple things in life that make it worthwhile. Just being able to take a break from the craziness and enjoy a moment together to do nothing, yet all that is important, at the same time. We are truly blessed, not only with the opportunity to travel, but more importantly, with having each other, our health, and the ability to recognize what is truly important and not taking it for granted. So, with that being said, we love each and every one of you as well as the many people that will never read this. We are thankful for your friendship and love. It is truly a gift and for that we are truly grateful. Be safe and have a good night!
All our love,
Javier and Jackie
